Holiday App Addiction

By Judy Carter Like us on Facebook Follow us on Twitter

This New Year's Resolution includes something else I have to give up besides sugar, gluten, and dairy -- Iphone apps.  Yes, I'm addicted to iPhone apps.

It's gotten so bad that I'm up to three A.M., jonesing for my hit of the next new app.
"Just one more...I promise this'll be the last one.  I know the app that turns my iPhone into a scanner will give me the rush I want.  It downloads directly to Dropbox ... unlike the three other scanner apps I bought this week."
Looking over the 15.5 gigs of apps I've purchased that made me have to buy the new iPhone 4s, I see I have a problem.
It seems obvious that I need the Walk n Type app that would display what's going on in front of me because, after all, with so many apps, I'm going to be typing pretty much all the time.  But -- but I have to walk around the office and walk the dogs at some point, and typing and walking at the same time IS dangerous.   And, there's also the photo app that I absolutely have to have because it wirelessly transfers photos from my computer to my iPad, because I'm going to be so busy using all my apps I just don't have the time to hook up a cable.
Maybe I could wean myself off a few apps I'm not using as much now.  The pimple popper app I bought a while back seemed like it would be fun at parties.  Now I know why I don't get invited to parties.  Maybe I could live without that one.
The Couch to 5k app isn't working for me.  (So far I've made it couch to refrigerator.)  But Scanner911 Police Radio Pro I can't let go of, because I never know if in my free time I'll want to listen in on a report about a purse stolen in Big Bear Lake, California.
I am pretty proud of being able to delete the app for Angry Birds.  That's like throwing away your crack pipe.  But maybe it's because I replaced it with Angry Birds in HD as well as in Rio?
Maybe my addiction is just another way to procrastinate from writing my book, "The Speaker's Bible."  Hey, anyone know if there's a book app for that?

Please pass on this blog to others who might enjoy it and feel free to post it on your website.

I know what you mean Judy. There's always just that one more app, and that one more high score to get. Thanks for this... Too Funny. Have a great New Year!!!

This is absolutely HYSTERICAL, Judy! I really loved the line "I am pretty proud of being able to delete the app for Angry Birds. That's like throwing away your crack pipe. But maybe it's because I replaced it with Angry Birds in HD." LOL

I'm looking forward to seeing, hearing and meeting you at NSA Houston in January!

P.S. Feel free to comment on any post on my blog http://markstruczewski.com/blog/)!

hey Judy!

Happy New Year!

I was wondering- what's the difference between a one-woman (man) show and what you would do for a speaking gig? Is it the customized humor? Do people take their one-man shows and pitch them to the corporate market? Or is that pretty much just something that really only works in theater-type settings?

Trying to decide where to focus my efforts, and the one-woman show idea seems to be artistically satisfying but not likely lucrative.

on another topic- I recently turned down a college comedy gig because it was only $1500. Oh sure that sounds like a lot but then they required I have liability insurance ($200), I had to pay the agent on the gross ($225) and I had to pay my own travel (airfare $615 plus $50 bag fee plus $20 parking plus $100 rental car plus $200 for 2 hotel room stays). By the time I got home it looked like I was going to lose money on the show. Just a word to the wise. And why, I want ot know is it MY responsibility to buy liability insurance for events? Interested in your wisdom on this. Should we comics buy this, and why?
